Sweet, Rich, Earthy
Regardless of how you say it, "PEE-can," or "pa-KAWN," there is no debating the health benefits of this rich-tasting, versatile nut. Sweet, buttery and earthy, our petite Pecan Pieces pack a great big taste. These "Northern" Pecans from Missouri are from old-growth wild groves that are certified organic. Some of the trees are over 300 years old, and each tree is lovingly planted by Nature herself. Each tree is its own unique variety from a non-homogenized ecosystem. Carefully shelled in a low-temperature process to protect the delicate flavor and rich nutrients. Rich in heart-healthy mono-unsaturated oil, easily digested protein & vitamin E.
Nutrient Dense: Pecans contain
more than 19 vitamins and minerals – including vitamin A, vitamin E,
folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, several B
vitamins and zinc. One ounce of pecans provides 10 percent of the
recommended Daily Value for fiber. Pecans are also a natural,
high-quality source of protein that contain very few carbohydrates and
no cholesterol. Pecans are also naturally sodium-free, making them an
excellent choice for those on a salt- or sodium-restricted diet.
Protein: Pecans are an
excellent source of protein and can easily be substituted for meat.
Eating 1 ounce of pecans is the same as eating
about 2 ounces of meat but with less saturated fat and no cholesterol.
Plus, nuts contain more healthful types of fats than meat does and they
are cholesterol-free, so they make excellent choices over fatty meats.
Anti-oxidants: Using a
method that had been shown to be a good indicator of the total
antioxidant capacity of foods called ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance
Capacity), researchers found that pecans rank highest among all nuts and
are among the top category of foods to contain the highest antioxidant
capacity. Adding just a handful of pecans to your diet each day may help
inhibit unwanted oxidation of blood lipids, thus helping prevent
coronary heart disease. Pecans contain a significant content of
different forms of vitamin E – a natural antioxidant which protects
blood lipids from oxidation. Oxidation of lipids in the body - a process
akin to rusting – is detrimental to health.
Weight Control: Nuts
like pecans assist in maintaining weight loss. Some studies indicate
that nut consumption may increase metabolic rates and enhance satiety.
When used in conjunction with a healthy low-fat diet, nuts also offer
increased flavor, palatability and texture that can lead to greater
Nearly 60 percent of the fats in pecans are monounsaturated and another
30 percent are polyunsaturated, leaving very little saturated fat in
pecans. The unsaturated fat in pecans is heart-healthy fat. Helps
maintain healthy cholesterol.
Oleic Acid: Pecans are a rich source of oleic acid, the same type of
fatty acid found in olive oil. A one-ounce serving of pecans provides
about 25% more oleic acid than a one-tablespoon serving of olive oil.
