1 What are superfoods

Superfoods (soo⋅per⋅füds, n): 1. Plant-based foods that boast extraordinary energizing and healing properties due to their abundance and density of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, and other vital nutrients. 2. Something with outstanding qualities that sustains and stimulates the body, mind and soul (i.e., love, sun, pure water, joy) 3. Foods that nourish Super Heroes, those who boldly dare to Be the Change they wish to see in the world...

It is a super food! “Superfoods” are those plant-based foods that are considered the most nutritionally dense on the planet. They are indigenous and heirloom species that are grown in highly mineralized soils and irrigated with pure water. They are either organically cultivated in harmony with the Earth or wild-crafted from a fully intact native ecosystem. Superfoods boast specific, unique, concentrated, healing properties – antioxidants, minerals, enzymes, assimilable proteins, etc. - delivering unadulterated, high-level nutrients to the body in a way that is easily assimilable and immediately effective. It is recommended that you eat Superfoods in their live or raw state so that you receive the full benefit of their inherent nutrients and natural vitality.

Vivapura Superfoods are...
RAW. Unadulterated. Nutrient Dense. Vibrant Life Force.
ORGANIC. In Harmony with Earth. Healing for People.
ETHICAL. Vegan. Sustainable. Fairly Traded.

2 Bee Pollen

Bee pollen, despite the name, is actually a plant product. The bees are simply the harvesters. Pollen is the dust-sized seed found on the stamen of all flower blossoms. The pollen collects on the legs of honeybees as they move from flower to flower looking for nectar. Pollen is filled with biological information and potential energy. One pollen granule contains from one hundred thousand to five million pollen spores, each capable of reproducing its entire species.

One of the most highly prized Superfoods used for thousands of years, bee pollen is known as an energy enhancer, the herbal "fountain of youth" and Nature’s most complete food. The Greek physician Hippocrates, recognized as the father of modern medicine, used pollen as a healing substance over 2,500 years ago. Bee pollen contains most of the known nutrients, including all of those necessary for human survival. When compared to any other food, it contains a higher percentage of all necessary nutrients. It contains an incredible array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, co-enzymes and hormones. People who consume high-quality bee pollen almost always experience an increase in energy, zest, and physical endurance. This is precisely why thousands of world-class athletes supplement their diets with this natural substance. Experience what one of the most nutritionally complete natural substances found on Earth can do for you.

Vivapura Quality:

Ethically Harvested: Bee keepers work in harmony with the bees using such practices as giving the bees “free flight” (removing pollen traps every other day).

Purity: Collected from vast natural areas such as nationally protected lands far from the effects of pollution and chemical agriculture.

Nutrient Stability: Our pollen is dried to below 15% moisture, naturally, which means that the pollens are free from excess moisture that can cause bacteria to grow and degrade the nutrients turning the pollen rancid. Dried pollens are stable and are great for travel.

Do not refrigerate or freeze. To preserve the pollen's dryness, freshness and crispness, be sure that the zip seal on the top of the bag is closed. Or transfer pollen to a glass jar with lid.

The Power of Pollen:

• Composed of 55% carbohydrates, 35% protein, 3% vitamins and minerals, 2% fatty acids, and 5% other substances.

• Provides more than a dozen vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 14 beneficial fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates, and is rich in minerals, the full spectrum of vitamins, and hormones.

• Contains all 22 known amino acids and all 28 minerals found in the human body.

• Notable minerals and vitamins - potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, copper and the B vitamins.

• Rich in antioxidants, including lycopene, selenium, beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and several flavonoids.

• Rejuvenates your body, stimulates organs and glands, enhances vitality, and brings about a longer life span.

• Effective in the treatment of conditions as diverse as low blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and mental fatigue.

• Rapidly absorbed into the blood stream and stimulates immunological responses.

• Increases the count of white and red blood cells. When given to anemic patients, researchers have found levels of hemoglobin increase (hemoglobin is oxygen-carrying red blood cells in the human body).

• Helps normalize cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood. The bad cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins - LDL) decreased and the good cholesterol (high-density lipoproteins - HDL) increased.

• Low in calories and may assist in weight loss, improved fertility, and increased energy and stamina.

Note: Bee pollen may be an allergen for some. Please consume only one granule for your first dose and then increase dosage slowly. In addition, Vivapura is not claiming that any of the health claims are true. We are simply relaying information from several research projects and from our personal experience.

3 Cacao

Cacao (commonly referred to as Cocoa) is raw chocolate (without all the additives and processing). It is truly an essential delight for chocoholics and health aficionados. Historically cacao was used by the Aztecs to create a beverage called xocoatl and later, after it was discovered by Europeans, to make chocolate. Today, as more is learned about its amazing revitalizing properties, people are using raw cacao in new ways to preserve it's vital nutrients and health effects.
Cacao in its many forms (beans, nibs, powder, butter, and paste) comes from the fruit (or pod) of the cacao tree. The cacao tree (Theobroma Cacao) is grown in the tropics between 10 to 20 degrees north and south of the equator, sometimes called the "Cocoa Belt". The tree is often grown in the shades of other trees. It can be as tall as 40 feet (12 meters), and has fruits (pods) which are more than on foot (30 cm) long. The fruits may be brownish-yellow to purple, and contain 20-40 seeds or cacao beans in a pink, sweet-sour pulp. After the pod is harvested, it is opened and the pulp and the seeds are removed. The seeds are then fermented in baskets with banana leaves in between each layer of beans to bring out the aroma. Without fermentation there would be no “chocolate” flavor.

If you are a chocoholic, it is with good reason. And if you are not yet particularly drawn to chocolate, you may come to adore it once you learn of its many amazing health benefits.

Vivapura Quality:

Prized Variety: Vivapura offers organic Cacao of the Arriba Nacional (Aroma Defina) variety from Ecuador – the rarest and most prized. It boasts a rich buttery flavor.

Pure Ecosystem: Our Cacao is grown on native soils where no chemicals, fertilizers, or herbicides have ever been used.

Really Raw: Most cacao (even some sold as “raw”) is also roasted to bring out the flavor or even heated over 118 degrees F in processing. This devitalizes the nutrients and compromises the healthy fats. A true raw cacao connoisseur has a well-developed palette and can discern the roasted beans. We at Vivapura assure that you get only the highest quality, low-temperature produced, raw cacao products.

The Power of Cacao:

• Super High in Antioxidants: Cacao contains a large amount of antioxidants (flavonoids) and includes catechins, epicatechins, and procyandins. The flavonoids in chocolate are called flavonols. Flavonoids are plant compounds with potent antioxidant properties; so far, scientists have found more than 4,000 kinds. Cacao beans contain large quantities of flavonoids, as do red wine and tea, but at far higher levels. Cacao has higher Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) values than many common foods (ORAC values measure how powerful an antioxidant a substance is). An antioxidant is a substance that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen and peroxides and that protects the living body from the deleterious effects of free radicals. Examples include beta-carotene, vitamin C, and alpha-tocopherol.

• Benefits for Blood Pressure and Blood Flow: Cacao helps the body process nitric oxide (NO), a compound critical for healthy blood flow and blood pressure. It reduces the blood's ability to clot and may reduce the risk of stroke and heart attacks and may keep high blood pressure down. Also rich in magnesium, the number one mineral that assists and supports healthy heart functioning.

• A Cholesterol-Friendly Food: Cacao beans contain approximately 50% fat. It is primarily comprised of two saturated fatty acids, palmitic and stearic acids, and the mono unsaturated oleic acid. Cacao does not raise blood cholesterol.

• Stimulating, Energizing & Clarifying: The stimulants theobromine, caffeine, tyramine and phenylethylamine (PEA) provide a much-needed lift if you are experiencing brain fog. Theobromine is a very mild stimulant that is primarily responsible for the balanced energizing effect of cacao. Cacao also contains a very low amount of caffeine, much less than is found in coffee and tea. Cacao can also have the opposite effect for those who need it. It contains the amino acid Tryptophan that enhances relaxation and promotes better sleep.

• A Natural Mood Enhancer: Cacao can increase the level of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin levels are often decreased in people with depression and in those experiencing PMS symptoms. Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, lessens anxiety by producing the neurotransmitter serotonin. Phenylethylamine, also in Cacao, is a slight antidepressant and stimulant similar to the body's own dopamine and adrenaline. Cacao also contains Arginine, the aphrodisiac-like amino acid. Researchers have discovered that phenylethylamine (PEA) contained in Cacao has a positive effect in enhancing feelings of falling in LOVE!

• Pain Suppressant: Cacao is a natural analgesic. It also releases endorphins, the body's natural opiates that reduce sensitivity to pain.

• Rich in essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium and manganese.

• Rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, E and pantothenic acid.

4 Chia Seeds

Many consider Chia Seeds to be Nature’s perfect food! Traditionally Chia Seeds have been used by Native cultures of the South Western US and Mexico to increase stamina and endurance. The Mayan people included “runners” who would run long distances of 100 miles from village to village bringing communications. Archeologists have found small leather pouches filled with Chia Seeds…this was the secret to their capabilities. Chia Seeds are hydrophilic – they absorb 15 times their weight in water when soaked for about 1 hour.

Once eaten, chia seeds slowly release a steady stream of hydration into the body, thus creating sustained stamina. Today, modern science has revealed Chia's significant nutrients, especially the essential fatty acids and profound healing properties. No wonder the "Chia Pet" gained popularity back in the 1980's. People are simply drawn to the tiny black chia seed.
Chia offers a mild nutty flavor and a pleasant crunch when eaten dry, and creates a thickening hydrating gel when soaked or added to liquids. They won’t disturb the flavor of your dish and they will offer you a huge nutritional gift.

Vivapura Quality:

Our chia seeds are certified organically grown from South America.

The Power of Chia Seeds:

• Optimal balance of Essential Fatty Acid (EFAs): Chia is the best source of omega 3 and omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids – provides the optimum 3:1 ratio. 30% of the Chia Seed's oil is Omega 3 oil. 40% of its oil is Omega 6 oil. Chia contains the highest-known percentage of Omega 3 alpha-linolenic acid, an incredible 62%–64%! Chia’s balanced EFAs significantly boost brainpower and brighten mood (EFAs are known for their antidepressive effects). Essential fats make cell membranes more flexible, and enable more efficient membrane function, including better nerve transmission and nutrient transport into cells. A healthy nervous system supports more efficient brain function!

• Easily Digestible: The shells are easily broken down, even when swallowed whole. There is no need to grind the seed in order to process them through the digestive tract (unlike flax seeds). This makes them easy to travel with and to eat early in the morning without waking up your household.

Hydrating for the Body: Chia is highly hydrophilic, meaning it absorbs up to large amounts of water – (about 10) times their weight. As such they are a great enhancer in hydrating our bodies. The water we drink is absorbed by the seed holding it in our system longer. You’re able to stay hydrated longer and retain electrolytes in your bodily fluids. Chia is ideal for athletes.

• Stabilizes Blood Sugar: Another great food for diabetics, Chia Seeds slow down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrate calories into simple sugars. When mixed with water or stomach juices, the seeds form a gel that creates a physical barrier between the carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down. The carbohydrates are thereby digested and converted into glucose (blood sugar) at a slow, uniform rate. There is no insulin surge or spike needed to lower the blood sugar level. This creates steady, stable blood glucose levels and yields steady high energy levels.

• Regenerating: After eating, the nutrients travel to the cells very quickly due to the ease in digestion and assimilation. Use them when you want to build or regenerate healthy body tissue.

• Weight Control: Chia will help you lose excess weight for two reasons. The first is that they are so filling that you will eat less of other foods. The second reason is that they actually bulk up and cleanse your body of old "junk" in your intestines. They are an excellent addition to a detox program.

• Nutrient Dense: The nutritional value per volume is astounding. A little goes a long way and keeps on giving.

• High Protein Content: Chia Contains 20% or more protein. This helps reduce cravings and offers cardio-protective properties.

• Fiber

• Magnesium

• Calcium

• Antioxidants (unlike flax seeds)

* These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Suggested Uses:

Use as a nutrient-dense thickener in smoothies.
Add to homemade salad dressing.
Use in dehydrated cookies, breads, and energy bars or in baked goods.
Thickener & Egg Substitute: Use ground or whole chia as a binder for your favorite recipes. 1 T chia soaked in 3 T water=1 egg. Or substitute equal amounts Chia for flax seeds.

5 Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is the “healthy fat” pressed from the meat of the coconut. Coconut Oil is truly one of nature's gifts—widely used as a food product and skin moisturizer. It is powerfully unique as it contains antiviral, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties. Health-conscious individuals prize coconut oil for its extremely high flash point (the healthiest oil for cooking), zero trans-fatty acids, and extremely rich source of Medium-Chain Fatty Acids which are broken down efficiently by the body, providing an immediate source of energy.

Coconut oil entices with a sweet “coconutty” aroma and boasts a delicate subtle flavor that makes it the perfect companion for any cuisine.

Vivapura Quality:

Production: Our oil is pressed from the meat of low-temperature dried coconuts. The vital nutrients are carefully preserved – oil is never subjected to temperatures above 115 °F.

Freshness: Our coconut oil is made to order for optimum freshness and quality control. It is extracted on site at the organic coconut plantation. (In comparison, much coconut oil is produced from coconuts that have molded in long-distance transportation to production facilities.)

The Power of Coconut Oil:

• “Good Fat”: Virgin coconut oil is rich in the essential fatty acids, the "good fats" that doctors recommend and is cholesterol and trans fat-free. One of the “good fats” that makes up about 50% of coconut oil, is lauric acid. Lauric acid is a rare medium-chain fatty acid found in mother's milk. It is now being shown to have anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial health-protecting properties. It helps in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It also helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori.

• Skin Rejuvenation: Nourishes skin at a cellular level as the lignins in coconut oil are most similar to the lignins in human skin. Coconut oil is not merely a topical balm, it is a skin-nourishing nutrient. It prevents dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin due to the antioxidant properties. Coconut oil may also help in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin conditions.

• Heart Diseases: There is a misconception that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. The lauric acid helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful like some originally thought and does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

• Weight Loss: Contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Furthermore, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. The reason behind this is that coconut oil contains fewer calories than other oils and its fat content is easily converted into energy.

• Digestion: Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti-microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

• Immunity: It strengthens the immune system as it contains anti-microbial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid that have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties.

• Healing: When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer that protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.

• Infections: Coconut oil is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, etc.

• Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.

• Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium that are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.

• Dental Care: Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay. Try rubbing it on your teeth and gums before bed.

• Endurance: Coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders. It helps in boosting energy and endurance, and enhances the performance of athletes.

* These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Suggested Uses:

Ideal for cooking as it has the highest flash point of all oils (retains its vital nutrients when heated).
Add to stir frys for a subtle fresh coconut flavor
Add to smoothies.
Add to raw cookies and desserts.
Use as a skin moisturizer.

Usage Tip:
Coconut oil begins to harden below 70℉. To melt, simply place in a food dehydrator, double boiler, or directly on the stove over low heat.

6 Goji Berries

The Goji Berry, also known as wolfberry, and in pharmacological references as Lycii fructus, is a bright orange-red fruit containing tiny yellow edible seeds. Grown for commercial use predominantly in China, this "red diamond" has been used in Chinese Medicine for about 1,900 years. This superfruit combines exceptional nutrient richness and antioxidant quality with an appealing taste.
Vivapura Quality:

Vivapura Goji Berries are grown organically in the fertile valleys of Ningxia Province, China. Here, in their indigenous terrain, the berries are vine-ripened, harvested in the summer months, and shade-dried at low temperatures for maximum nutrient preservation. They are a large (premium grade size) chewy berry with exceptional flavor and a somewhat “caramelized” outer texture that makes them yummy to eat even on their own.

Note: Although "wolfberries" can be obtained in Asian markets at a fraction of the cost, it is not recommended. "Wolf berries" have been detected to have excessively high levels of pesticide and fungicide levels leading the FDA to seize some imports. Vivapura ensures the goji berries we provide are of the absolute highest quality and purity, exceeding the standards of many sources in the "raw food" market place.

The Power of Goji Berrie*:

• High antioxidant properties
• Contains all the essential amino acids
• Prevention of cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases
• Prevention of vision-related diseases (such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma)
• Neuroprotective properties
• Anticancer and immunomodulatory agent

7 Green Hemp Seed Meal

Hemp is known as a perfect protein. It is the only food source with all the essential fatty acids, all the essential amino acids, and all the protein needed to sustain human life – edistin protein, that which is similar to human blood! Hemp is truly a Superfood! Hemp foods are 100% THC-free! Its natural nuttiness adds a uniquely pleasant flavor to any recipe you whip up.

Vivapura Quality:

At Vivapura we offer Green Hemp Seed Meal (a rare find). Why “Green” Hemp? The hemp seeds are only partially hulled (leaving the green skin on) and then ground at low temperatures to a coarse meal. This meal contains the nutrient-rich green skin that contains the majority of chlorophyll and fiber! Even with the skin, these seeds are smooth and creamy and easily edible. They can be eaten just as they are, sprinkled on salads or used in a yummy raw bar and even chocolate!

The Power of Hemp:

• Protein: Hemp contains 25% - 31% protein, second only to soy (35%), but the protein in hemp foods is more easily digestible. Hemp contains globular proteins, albumin 33% and 65% edistin (a Greek word meaning edible), which have structures very similar to proteins made by the blood, thus making them readily digestible. What is unique about hemp seed protein is that 65% of it is globulin edistin. That is the highest in the plant kingdom. A handful of hemp seed provides the minimum daily requirement of protein for adults. No other food source provides complete protein in such an easily digestible form. No enzyme inhibitors like other plant-based proteins.

• Essential Amino Acids: Hemp foods contain all eight essential amino acids, with higher amounts of each than other main sources of protein, like egg whites, tofu, human milk, and whole cow's milk. Besides these 8 essential amino acids, hemp foods also provide the necessary types and amounts of amino acids the body needs to make serum albumin and serum globulins, two other amino acids essential to life. All of this makes hemp a complete source of protein.

• Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs): Hemp food is the highest source of easily digestible essential fatty acids in the plant kingdom with total essential fatty acids at 80-81% of total oil volume. It provides the perfect ratio of Omega 6 (around 60%) to Omega 3 (20 %), a 3 to 1 ratio; the ratio recommended by health experts. Hemp is the only food item containing every EFA. EFAs are essential to tissue growth and help regulate many internal functions, which makes consuming them critical. EFAs are by definition "essential" because they can't be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet for proper growth and body functioning. EFAs help organ muscles to contract, regulate stomach acid, help lower blood pressure, help maintain body temperature, regulate hormone levels, and break up cholesterol, while aiding in fat transportation and metabolism.

• Chlorophyll: The deep green color of Green Hemp Seed Meal comes from its high chlorophyll content, which is widely acknowledged as one of the most healing substances in nature; chlorophyll is incidentally also the main ingredient in the composition of wheat grass, another highly healing plant food.

Suggested Uses:

Create creamy mylks, smoothies, desserts and sauces.
Sprinkle on top of a salads or savory dishes.
Use in raw chocolates.

8 Maca

Maca is an ancient Superfood staple and it is so rich with energy, nutrition and life giving nutrients, some claim that it could be the most beneficial supplement. It is adored for optimizing vitality. Maca is grown predominantly in Peru at altitudes so high that no other cultivable crops can survive. This is a testament to the hardiness of this miracle plant. Maca passes its endurance, stamina and vitality on to you!

Maca was domesticated about 2,000 years ago by the Pumpush de Junín, a pre-Incan culture, who lived in the high-elevation creeks of the Chinchaycocha Lake. The remains found in the caves of Pachamachay indicate that maca was their main food source. There is no evidence of “maca culture” practiced outside this central Andean region.

During the Incan Empire, Maca was considered a sacred food destined specially for the Inca royalty. In addition, it was fed to the troops of the Inca because it offered vitality and physical force to the soldiers. During this period the Maca was cultivated on the plateau of Junín, to be sent to Cusco as a tribute to the Pumpush of the Inca.

Later, with the Spanish conquest, it was the favorite food of the Spanish crown. Sent to Spain from Peru, it became a form of tax payments in Spain and was regarded as a very valuable commodity and source of nutrition.

Vivapura Quality:

Today, Vivapura Maca is hand cultivated, harvested and produced on an organic farm in Peru. Single plantation production insures purity, consistency, quality control and freshness. This farm rotates between multiple fields each year to ensure that the maca is grown in rich, nutrient dense soil. We are pleased to offer you the excellent nutrient density and purity of our Maca Powder.

The Power of Maca:

• Called “Peruvian Ginseng” as it has such a rejuvenating effect.

• Amazingly rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals.

• Abundance of trace minerals, some of which have not even been classified by scientists yet.

• Contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fiber, etc.; considered a superior, healthful, powerful, tonic, vigorous and stimulating food.

• Vitamins C and E and minerals, zinc, manganese, magnesium, iron and copper.

• High calcium content.

• Protein-rich.

How much Maca should I take?
Maca is an adaptogen. Adaptogens work gradually and not instantly. They need to be continually used to receive the full benefits they offer. In addition, Maca will assist the body in utilizing other supplements to their optimum capacity as it helps to further digest and assimilate the nutrients. A common misconception about herbs is that there is a standard dosage. In actuality, the proper measure is in relation to size, sensitivity, age, and gender.

In general though, a typical daily-suggested intake could be anywhere from 1,500-10,000mg daily, split into two or three doses. Remember that Maca is a food; less than 1500mg will likely not deliver desired results. It can be recommended to start at 1,500mg per day and then regulate your own dosage to achieve your personal goals.

9 Nori

Nori sea vegetable is a universal name for various species of red algae. Raw Nori is dark purple in color - food for the crown chakra! (Green Nori has been roasted.) Nori Sheets are one of the easiest ways to eat seaweed - just use it as a wrap for salads or fill it with sliced veggies and nut pâté. For this reason, along with its dense and unique nutrient values, Vivapura has identified it as one of our Top Ten Superfoods. Nori is sometimes called "The Reservoir of Vitamins" due to its high vitamin content.

It is low calorie and low fat, and extremely high in nutrients, especially riboflavin, vitamins A & C, iron, calcium, zinc, iodine, EPA and fiber. Nori contains as much protein as soybeans, in an easy to digest and assimilate form.

Vivapura Quality:

Our truly raw, certified organic Nori is wild harvested from the mineral rich waters of the Sea of Japan. Our Nori is never cultured; it grows naturally in it native environment. It is naturally dried in conditions that never exceed 85℉. (Note: much Nori sold as "raw" has been heat processed at temperatures high enough to destroy vital nutrients). Our glossy purple-black Nori Sheets are classified as Grade A-B, representing the upper 15% of quality of all Nori production.

The Power of Nori:

• High in protein: Nori contains as much protein as soybeans and is easily digested and assimilated into the body.

• Organic (photo-synthetic) vitamins & minerals: Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Vitamin K, Thiamin, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus and Zinc, Iodine, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B5, Folate, Iron, Potassium, Copper and Manganese.

• Calcium: It provides up to ten times more calcium and iron by weight than dairy products.

• Contains an abundance of trace minerals.

• Iron: Nori also contains as much iron as one egg.

• Essential Fatty Acids: Nori contains eicosapentanoic acid, or Omega-3s, which are necessary for human health. Omega-3s play a role in brain function, growth and development. This essential fatty acid has also been noted to reduce the risk of heart disease. Also contains Omega-6 fatty acids.

• Lipids: a broad group of naturally occurring molecules which includes fats, waxes, sterols, fat-soluble vitamins (such as vitamins A, D, E and K), monoglycerides, diglycerides, phospholipids, and others. The main biological functions of lipids include energy storage, as structural components of cell membranes, and as important signaling molecules.

• Plant sterols: may reduce cholesterol.

• Amino acids: contains alaline, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and glycine.

• Anti-oxidants: contains anti-oxidants that prevent free radicals and oxidative stress that leads to cancer, heart disease and other degenerative conditions.

• Polyphenols: may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer or other diseases. May have a longevity conferring effect.

• Fucoidan, Laminarin, and Alginate compounds: anti-biotic and anti-viral. (Land plants do not contain these photochemicals.)

• Lignans - type of plant compound that is one of the major classes of phytoestrogens, which are estrogen-like chemicals and also act as antioxidants.

• Salad Wraps: Roll with salad or sliced veggies.

11 Spirulina Crunchies®

What is Spirulina? Spirulina is truly one of Nature's richest Superfoods. It is a pure, natural, whole, nutrient dense, microscopic, edible, blue-green algae packed with complete and absorbable protein, chlorophyll, antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals. It is a balanced whole food that contains over 100 synergistic nutrients that are easily assimilated. It is literally at the bottom of the food chain - a concentrated "nutrient soup" from which all life can be nourished.
Spirulina is a power packed green food that has served as a significant food source of the Mayan and Aztec peoples (who were known to mix it with cacao - yum!) and Africans. Certainly one of the world's healthiest foods!
What are Spirulina Crunchies®?
Spirulina Crunchies® are pure Spirulina (no binders, fillers or preservatives) that have been manually formed into crunchy bits for your culinary enjoyment. They are a rare strain called spirulina plantensis, the variety is called "Titi." Our unique tasty Crunchies® are radically different than traditional spirulina - most commonly available in an ultra-fine powder or pressed into tablets using a binding agent. In contrast, our grape-nuts-like pure Spirulina Crunchies® are lip-smackable, easily eaten by the handful, and equally appetizing sprinkled on soups, salads, tossed into your favorite recipes, stirred into green juices, and infused into raw chocolates, etc. They taste absolutely delicious!

What Makes Spirulina Crunchies® Different?*:

• A totally fantastic super green CRUNCH!

• Superior savory flavor
Because our Spirulina is grown in pure fresh water (as it should be), they have a fresh flavor (unlike much spirulina which is grown with sea water and can make other spirulina taste like rancid fish food).

• 100% pure naturally grown Spirulina – nothing added!
Spirulina Crunchies® are pesticide and herbicide free, are grown naturally, do not contain any genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and are never processed with any synthetic chemicals.

• Low temperature dried to preserve the nutrient and enzyme qualities
Note: The leading "raw" brand of spirulina uses a freeze-drying process that plummets the temperature below 0ºF. Extreme low temperatures can adversely affect the nutrient value of "live/raw" foods.

• Hand cultivated and crafted on a pristine small family farm.
Grown in northern Costa Rica, Spirulina Crunchies® benefit from the ideal year-round climate and perfect growing conditions found few other places in the world. The spirulina cultivation pools are supplied from a deep well on the farm that offers pure alkaline water whose origin is the volcanic walls of "Rincon de ala Vieja," an active volcano that is in a period of relative calm. In this highly controlled cultivation system, all eight spirulina cultivation pools are covered "green house style" to keep dust and even rain from the pools. The pools are cleaned only with water and rinsed on a regular basis. Spirulina Crunchies® are grown in the most pristine conditions achievable in a carefully monitored system that contains less than 16,000 ppm of bacteria (up to 100,000 ppm of bacteria is permissible by most international spirulina standards). The farm and the surrounding areas are free of pesticides and other environmental contaminants. No artificial chemicals, preservatives or additives are used at any time in the production process.
Note: You may find impostors out there on the web. Our customer are constantly contacting us to understand the differences. These impostors are grown in extremely adverse conditions in India, have a putrid flavor, and are far inferior in every way.

• Retains Vibrant Spiral Structure
Spirulina forms helical, microscopic strands as it grows. This natural spiral shape is the inspiration for its name - Spirulina. Unlike many other varieties, the "Titi" variety used for Spirulina Crunchies® is unique in that it maintains the spiral structure even after drying (does not straighten out or break - see microscopic photo at top of this page). This is due in part to its smaller size (twice as small as most other cultures). Not only is it raw, but it is energetically vibrant right down to the microscopic level!

The Power of Spirulina:

• Dr. Oz, the renowned professor at Columbia University, and a regular guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, recommends Spirulina as one of the most important anti-aging nutritional supplements. Spirulina plays an important role in slowing down the aging process through its antioxidant/anti-inflammatory effects. It is also a perfect source of protein and is a completely absorbable wholefood vitamin and mineral supplement. It satisfies hunger because it fulfills the body’s nutritional and biochemical needs. And it is low in sodium, fat, starches and calories, so you won't gain weight! Optimize your vitality, endurance, strength and whole system health!

• Concentrated Protein Source: The highest concentrated source of protein! 60% vegetable protein. Easy to digest due to the lack of hard cellular walls.

• Complete Protein Source: Contains all 8 essential amino acids in the proper ratios, and eighteen amino acids in total. 375% more protein than tofu. A gram of spirulina is 4 times more absorbable than a gram of meat.

• Best Source of GLA: Gamma-linolenic acid. An anti-inflammatory essential fatty acid necessary for a healthy nervous system.

• Vast Spectrum of Antioxidants: loaded with antioxidants like natural beta carotene, mixed carotenoids, zeaxanthin, chlorophyll, phycocyanin, gamma linolenic acid (GLA), riboflavin, a host of other phytonutrients. Protect against harmful UV sunlight, pollution, and environmental stress.

• Minerals: High in essential minerals and trace minerals. Easily assimilated by the body as the minerals are chelated with the amino acids.

• Iron: 2300% more iron than spinach. Delivers oxygen to cells throughout your body. Improves energy levels. Promotes good health during growth phases. Prevents anemia.

• Beta Carotene: 3900% more beta carotene than carrots. A source of Vitamin A that your body cannot produce on its own.

• Vitamin K: An essential nutrient that must be obtained from sources outside the body.
• Calcium: 300% more calcium than whole milk.

• Chlorophyll (the green pigment): Blood builder and purifier. Supports liver and kidney function to detoxify your blood. Chlorophyll is deeply cleansing and alkalizing. Protects from UV radiation at a cellular level.

• Phycocyanin (the blue pigment): Phycocyanin works like a magnet to help remove heavy metals and pollutants from your body. Induces production of more stem cells found in bone marrow.

• Nucleic Acids: RNA and DNA.

Our Uncompromising Criteria:
At Vivapura, we know that for a food to truly be a superfood it must be the highest quality available on the planet. We bring you only the best. This is our passion.

Each Vivapura Superfood must meet three major criteria:

*RAW*
It is our commitment to bring you truly raw foods. In order to glean the maximum superfood effect, it must be raw - unadulterated by excessive heat. This preserves all the enzymes and nutrients that offer you their vitality and healing properties.

Did you know that many foods sold as “raw” are not? Many are subjected to temperatures over 115 degrees F which destroys many of the vital nutrients. This is true even in the “raw foods” industry. We at Vivapura ensure that we know exactly how the food was harvested, processed and packaged to ensure that all the vital nutrients are preserved and delivered directly to you.

*ORGANIC & WILD HARVESTED*
Organic is simply better for human biology and Earth ecology. Eating organic foods eliminates harmful pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers form polluting soils and waters. And our own bodies, being a sensitive natural ecosystem, function best free from these pollutants as well. Did you know organic foods have about 10 times the nutrient value as conventionally grown foods? And wild harvested foods can have 100 times the nutrient value! You definitely get more value for your dollar. And the harvesting practices encourage virgin lands to remain as such, rather than being clear cut for practices such as ranching which is environmentally and economically devastating. What will you choose?

*ETHICAL*
Not only are Vivapura superfoods good for you, they are good for everyone. We import “fair trade” certified foods whenever possible, ensuring that each person involved in the production of the food is provided a fair wage and humane working conditions. This has an extremely positive impact on developing cultures and our own hometown. All of our superfoods are vegan – free from animal products which most often involve cruel "husbandry" practices. And when we deliver Vivapura products into your hands they are carefully wrapped in natural, biodegradable, recyclable, plant-based packaging free from leaching toxins. That just makes ethical and aesthetic sense.

Once we are certain that the foods we offer you are the best available according to these criteria, we go the next step. How was the food transported? When was it harvested? Will it stay fresh? Is it an heirloom variety? Is it the finest available on the market? Is it packaged for freshness, ecological respect, and convenience. When the answers to these questions are astoundingly positive, then we make the commitment to bring this food directly to you, to ignite and sustain your passion for the finest foods on Earth.
